Updated Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Gain 550HP Plus AWD and 577HP S-Model Options

Mercedes-Benz’s CLS four-door coupe is, in layman’s terms, a much more stylish version of the E-Class upon which it is based. Thus, after revising the E63 AMG, it made perfect sense to apply the same updates to the CLS range-topper.

The 2014 model year CLS 63 AMG gets the same engine updates and all-wheel drive system, both in the four-door Coupe and five-door Shooting Brake variants.
This means that power and torque figures are now 550HP and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) respectively for the standard model, and 577HP and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) for the optional S-Model package.
Official performance figures are all but identical to the E-Class, with a 0-100 km/h (62mph) time of 4.2 and 3.7 seconds for the standard rear- and all-wheel drive saloon and 3.7 and 3.6/3.7 seconds for the more powerful S-Models. The only exception is the RWD Shooting Brake that is 0.1 seconds slower, whereas the E 63 AMG estate posts an identical time to the saloon.
"With its superlative power and torque ratings and the new performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the CLS 63 AMG is without parallel in its Coupe and Shooting Brake variants”, commented AMG boss Ola Källenius. “Our AMG 5.5-litre V8 engine remains the most efficient series production V8 engine in the world. The new, customised model variants provide greater scope than ever for individual solutions."
The performance version of the Mercedes-Benz CLS gets the AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension as standard, a diff lock in the rear axle in the S-Model variant, a torque vectoring system in the rear-biased (33/67 front/rear torque split) 4MATIC all-wheel drive and optional 402 mm carbon ceramic brakes.
The new CLS 63 AMG Coupe and Shooting Brake models will hit the market in April in standard, rear-wheel drive guise, whilst the 4MATIC and S-Model options will become available in June.
